A Celebration of Love & Heritage: Hanna & MJ’s Serbian Akron Wedding

Some weddings leave a lasting impression not just because of their beauty, but because of the deep sense of love, family, and tradition that surrounds them. That’s exactly how it felt photographing Hanna and MJ’s wedding.

This day was extra special to both of us. Hanna is the niece of Dave’s childhood best friend, a man who played a huge role in his life. Dave grew up spending time with this warm and welcoming family. They treated him like one of their own, taking him on vacations, supporting him like a son, and always opening their hearts and home. Although Dave’s best friend passed away a few years ago, the bond remained strong, and being part of this wedding felt like honoring that connection in a beautiful way.

A Church Wedding Rooted in Tradition

MJ’s Serbian heritage is a central part of who he is, and when it came time to choose a venue, there was no question. It had to be his beloved church. The ceremony space held a sense of reverence and legacy, but what truly amazed us was how Hanna transformed it into a breathtaking reception space.

Soft fabric draped from the ceiling and walls gave the room an ethereal glow. Elegant chandeliers added a romantic touch, while candlelight flickered across the tables, casting a warm and inviting ambiance throughout the room. It was sophisticated, dreamy, and unlike anything we’ve ever seen.

Elegance Meets Energy

The tables were topped with tall boxwood centerpieces that brought a modern and stylish contrast to the romantic decor. Every detail was carefully thought out, creating a setting that was both elegant and deeply personal.

But make no mistake, this reception was anything but quiet. From the moment the music began, the celebration came alive. A fiddler played traditional Serbian wedding songs, bringing everyone to their feet. There was laughter, dancing, and plenty of Slivovitz, the beloved plum brandy that flowed freely throughout the night.

A late night Sweet Escape

One of the most unique and heartwarming parts of the evening was the pastry room. Yes, a whole room just for pastries. As the party continued into the early hours of the morning, guests wandered into this magical space filled with homemade treats. The pastries were lovingly prepared by family members and church friends, each one more delicious than the last.

It was more than just dessert. It was a display of community, tradition, and love. The fact that so many people came together to contribute made it all the more meaningful.

A Wedding That Will Be Remembered

Photographing Hanna and MJ’s wedding wasn’t just about capturing beautiful images. It was about documenting a love story grounded in faith, culture, and family. It was about honoring the memory of someone who made a lifelong impact on David. And it was about celebrating two people who brought together the best of their worlds to create a wedding that was unforgettable in every way.
