Beautiful Ukrainian Wedding

– Lana & Jacob wanted a beautiful garden reception with a focus on family and tradition. The couple fell in love with Gervasi Vineyard and the Pavilion next to the lake was an ideal location for the reception. Because their family members had never attended a wedding at Gervasi, they were very excited to give them that experience.

They began their day getting ready at the home of Lana’s aunt and uncle, surrounded by her bridesmaids and family. Lana chose a custom fit satin charmeuse gown with romantic lace sleeves and accents.  It was “the dress I always envisioned myself in. It fit my personality. I love the soft material, buttons, crystals, long train and elegance of it”.   Her bridesmaids wore soft plum colored gowns with a soft flowing sheer skirt and delicate beading.

A very private intimate first look took place on the grounds behind the house before heading off to the church for a traditional Ukrainian Christian ceremony.  The couple had a touching, emotional and revert ceremony in a beautiful little Ukrainian church.  Ladies wore traditional head scarves and the family spoke on behalf of the newly joined couple.  This was our first time photographing a Ukrainian ceremony and it was an unforgettable experience.

At Gervasi, Lana designed a stunning reception with crystal candelabras, romantic candlelight and towering centerpieces.  Hydrangeas and calla lilies are her favorite flowers and were displayed prominently in the centerpieces and throughout the reception.  Lana’s bouquet also held hydrangeas and white peonies, while her bridesmaids carried bouquets of old fashioned roses and white hydrangeas.  Knowing how much Lana loved hydrangeas, Jacob could not resist tucking a flower behind Lana’s ear after a walk by the lake.

While family and friends sang and performed after dinner, tables were filled with traditional Ukrainian pastries and dessert.  (They were delicious and we were thrilled when the family gave us a very generous amount of pastries to enjoy at home. )  The children enjoyed exploring the grounds of Gervasi while adults mingled.  With the focus on friends and family at their wedding, Lana and Jake finished off the evening with one big family photo and a special moment together.
